Re: Women can now join the SAS Firstly, my cousin has tried and failed, twice, to get into the Special Services. Knowing how fit, dedicted, etc he is, fair play to any women that get in. It's an incredibly tough environment, best of the best, etc.
Saying that, that are distinct physical differences between men and women. Men can run faster, for longer. Jump higher. Are stronger.
That 1% difference could be the difference between life and death. This is a very poor politically correct decision.
---
If they pass the selection test then that 1% means fuck all. There is a certain standard that has to be met and if they meet it then what's the harm?

even if a woman does pass selection - we'll never hear about it. can't imagine they'd want their identity shared for obvs reasons.
i do think there is something about the genetic make-up of men and being predisposed to protect women. it's a natural instinct.

That is outdated argument goose given that we know women have fought and died in battle in other armies.
Goose's point is born out, by what research by the Israeli army has shown. Also, it has very bad effect on morale when men see their best (male) mates with their arms and legs blown off and their intestines hanging out. The effect on morale is even worse, when men see women, with such wounds.
Mixed gender units in the IDF have higher casualty rates than men only units.

women dying proves nothing. i'm not saying they can't serve but a units like the SAS/SBS is very unique. do you not think that in combat they would subconsciously try & protect the woman/women?

I'm all for women being able to die in battle - i'm just against them getting a choice in the matter

do you not think that in combat it will be human nature to try & protect the woman? given the choice to save someone they are predisposed to 'women & children first'.

If a woman is capable of passing the fitness, strength and aggression criteria to the same standard as a bloke, I'll not only be impressed, I'll worship her as my queen.

As long as they are subject to the same selection procedures I can see no reason why not.
At the risk of sounding like that utter bullshit merchant soldo, my cousin is an officer in the US special forces, educated at Princeton, very intelligent guy, the real deal. He has served and trained with women in his role and says that there is no reason why they cannot serve

Women have fought on the front line in the Israeli army for many years. Looked this up.....and I must have been using this site for too long as this last sentence made me just think.
fnaar fnaar.
"As of now, 88% to 92%[8] of all roles in the IDF are open to female candidates, while women can be found in 69% of all positions"

physically i just cant see how a woman could be up to this, maybe the odd one or two? also you have to think that like it or not there is a good chance she will be treated differently or have to be treated differently.
it just dont see it working.
